The reason this was possible is due to Hedley Wright, alongside the names, acquired the recipes that all those distilleries were using. More than that, rumour has it that he owns samples of many of those distilleries’ original output, which means he could compare his creations to the original indeed. And the result is this collection. It is unclear what whiskies Wright used to reproduce the old profiles. At the time, J&A Mitchell already owned Cadenhead, so it is relatively safe to think it was not only Springbank, but Cadenhead stocks.

Eaglesome was a deli and store operating in Campbeltown’s Reform Square. Up until its purchase by J&A Mitchell in the 1960s, it had no real focus on alcohol. Its new owner – which had operated Springbank distillery since 1897 – used Eaglesome as a means of importing cheaper coal for use at its nearby distillery, although it also transformed the business into more of a whisky specialist and independent bottler.

As well as bottling a range of blends, such as Campbeltown Loch and Eaglesome Blended, Eaglesome produced the Burnside single malt using whisky from Springbank – not to be confused with the Burnside Speyside blended malt.

In 1972 J&A Mitchell acquired independent bottler Wm Cadenhead, and the Eaglesome shop was eventually rebranded as a secondary Cadenhead outlet in Campbeltown, a stone’s throw from the company’s head office at 9 Bolgam Street.

In 1995 Eaglesome Ltd. was renamed Springbank Distillers Ltd, and became the sales and marketing arm of J&A Mitchell, responsible for selling the company’s whiskies all over the world. Not bad for what was originally a humble Campbeltown deli.

About Dalintober Distillery

Dalintober distillery stands by Queen Street of Dalintober, North East of Kinloch Park. It was built in 1832 by Reid & Colvill & Co. After this, they expanded there business and property, though it was bought by West Highland Malt Distillery LTD in 1919. Soon after this, it was closed in 1925. Now the land is used for houses but still, you can find parts of the building walls from those days.

40% ABV

5cl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1052/9737/9666/files/Dalintober12YearOldEaglesomeCampbeltownCommemorationSeries1832-1925VattedScotchMaltWhisky_1985_5clMiniature.jpg?v=1783885197
https://whiskysituation.co.uk/products/dalintober-12-year-old-eaglesome-campbeltown-commemoration-series-1832-1925-vatted-scotch-malt-whisky-1985-5cl-miniature
