Aber Falls Single Malt (2021) 70cl
The second single malt to be released by the fabulous Aber Falls distillery in North Wales is here! This expression was matured in a combination of Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, bourbon, and virgin oak casks and is positively brimming with rich fruit and subtle spice. Striving for sustainability and quality, the team at Aber Falls works closely with local farmers to grow top quality Welsh barley and contribute to the local economy. It gets a thumbs up from us!
Aber Falls single malt Welsh whisky is a fruity, spicy single malt from the first whisky distillery in North Wales in over 100 years. Aromas of vanilla, toffee, candied orange, fig, sultana and clove fill the nose, complemented by notes of sherry-soaked raisins, forest fruits, dried fruit, creamy malt, walnuts and dark chocolate throughout the palate.
Nose Creamy malt with diced nuts, caramel crystalised fruit, dates, and prunes.
Palate Vanilla and toffee cross zesty orange peel, heaps of sherried sultanas, and dried fruits. A gentle spice picks up with clove, earthy coffee, and extra dark chocolate, studded with nuts.
Finish The creamy texture prevails, vanilla fudge, darker notes of berries and cherries, sherried fruit cake, soft barley spice.
About Aber Falls
The village of Abergwyngregyn is home to the distillery, and sits at the foot of the famous Aber Falls waterfall. Attracting over 50,000 visitors a year, this picturesque spot is easily accessible, just off the A55 and a stone’s throw from the coast.
Previously a slate works in the 19th century, a margarine factory during the world wars, and more recently a drinks wholesaler depot, the building has been lovingly restored and refurbished, proving the ideal place to create their spirits and demonstrate the passion and skill in their craftsmanship.
Aber Falls whisky is unique in both its production and its taste. Working with local farmers, they use only authentic Welsh malted barley and fresh Welsh water, and their recipes have been meticulously built to highlight the quality of these spectacular ingredients.
The spirit must be aged for a minimum of three years and one day before it is legally whisky.
After fermentation, their whisky is distilled in large copper stills, which remove the sulphur from the liquid and help in the formation of esters, giving the spirit a refined, fruity character.
