Ardbeg Fermutation 13 Years – Single malt whiskey released in 2022 for the Committee

The single malt whiskey is the result of a mishap. One of the boilers was defective, meaning that weeks of storage & the longest fermentation in the distillery's history took place in the washbacks. In order to make a virtue out of necessity, Ardbeg allowed the Fermutation to mature in barrels for 13 years. It was allowed to store in first &refill ex-bourbon barrels. It was bottled in its natural form. It does not contain any dyes or cooling filtration. The alcohol content of the limited edition is 49.4 percent by volume. Since its release, the sought-after whiskey has consistently achieved higher prices on the secondary market. There are 8,000 bottles available worldwide.

Tasting: Ardbeg Fermutation 13 Years Committee Release in the tasting

Nosing: The whiskey presents itself to the nose with floral notes. It feels fresh & smells of herbs. Cedar wood comes through. Behind it lie fruity impressions of oranges & grapefruits. Peppermint &menthol are present.

Tasting: The Ardbeg Fermutation Committee Release feels strong on the tongue. It tastes of aniseed & pastry. Cardamom is present. Toffee creates sweet impressions.

Finish: The Limited Edition Islay Whiskey has a long-lasting farewell. It leaves behind salty notes & mint. Tar & leather last for a long time after drinking Ardbeg Fermutation.

The result of an happy accident from 2007, in which a boiler broke down. It led to an interesting experiment, as six washbacks with tens of thousands of litres of fermented wort, sat waiting to be distilled. The lids were lifted from the washbacks for 3 weeks which allowed the liquid to breathe, & the magic to happen. 13 Years later, we have this interesting & dare we say it delicious whisky.

This limited edition highlights the impact of the longest fermentation in Ardbeg’s history.
