Ardmore 21 Year Old Douglas Laing Old Particular Ardmore 21 Year Old 1999 Single Refill Cask DL15058 (2021) 70cl
Ardmore is among the most daring of the smoky Highland malts, often a rather full-throttle peated dram. The distillery made old-style Highland malt whisky for many moons, supplying the smoky element in Teacher's blended whisky since its inception in 1898, and only converted to steam heated stills in 2002.
This Ardmore 1999 by Douglas Laing predates that change, and as it's a refill hogshead cask bottled as a 21-year-old at 51.5% it's a safe bet that this will showcase the classic Ardmore style to the fullest, putting the Old in Old Particular.
Distilled at the Ardmore Distillery in 1999, only 297 bottlings are available of this twenty one year old expression. Aromatic, round and replete with subtle smoke and gently peated barley. Mouthcoatingly unctuous - peppery, phenolic cereals abound amongst crushed sugar.
