Tasting Notes

Jack and Dana's tasting notes

Nose: An unashamed sherry bomb. Oloroso sherry leaps out of the glass chased by the cask strength tingle. Deep sticky toffee, Nutella, brown sugar, leather and cigar box.

Palate: Mature at first; new leather, Christmas pudding and vanilla ice cream. A touch of water brings the caramel and toffee chocolate box to life.

Finish: Long tingling spice, chocolate and cinnamon Danish pastries.

Ed's review

Colour: Deep auburn, like looseleaf tea. Pronounced legs in the glass.

Nose: Jamaican ginger cake with rich, sticky ginger and dark muscovado sugar. A bold savoury note like pork frazzles or even gammon with barbeque sauce.

Palate: Full mouthfeel. Dark sherried fruits with sticky figs and macerated plums dance with a savoury note: pork frazzles again! Dark barbeque sauce with exotic spices. Old leather and fine cigar tobacco. Alcohol is well integrated adding to that full mouthfeel.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Rich sherried fruits linger together with bright spice.

Overall: Oomph that's good. And unusual. And addictive. Love it.

About Uncharted's Thunderstruck

This single malt is an unapologetic juggernaut. A huge sherry cask influence, absolutely ferocious cask strength, bottled young and un-chill filtered. This spirit was distilled only 7 years ago but it tastes exponentially better than many much older whiskies Jack and Dana have tried while searching for the best casks. The oloroso sherry cask has imparted mega colour on the liquid, it is among the darkest and most flavour-packed cask samples they have ever seen. There’s simply no substitute for a first-fill oloroso sherry cask.

Why the name Thunderstruck? It’s how Jack and Dana felt when they saw the sample! The colour of Coca-Cola, an outrageous depth and sweetness to match, all followed by a cask strength thunderstrike. You’ll be shaking at the knees.
