Stories always start at the beginning (unless they're one of those purposely confusing stories like Memento or those Funnybones books - it's never explained why they're skeletons!), and this is the introductory release from The Balvenie Stories range! These releases all give light to events and people in Balvenie's past and present - this one, for example, takes inspiration from apprentice malt master Kelsey McKechnie and her idea to import virgin oak barrels from Kentucky and deeply toast them at the distillery's cooperage. They were then filled with Balvenie's ex-bourbon oak aged whisky for a finishing period, resulting in... Well, this very whisky you see here!

The Balvenie has released a range of whiskies that tell the story of this much-loved distillery and their craftsmanship aptly named The Balvenie Stories. The Sweet Toast of American Oak speaks of the quest to create a fruitier sweeter expression. Apprentice Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie had the brainwave to import Virgin Oak barrels from Kelvin Cooperage in Louisville Kentucky. These were deeply toasted in The Balvenie Cooperage and the rest is history.

Aged in ex-Bourbon barrels initially before being finished in the toasted Virgin Oak barrels from Kentucky this 12 Year Old is brimming with candied fruit desiccated coconut creamy fudge heather honey lemon peel vanilla toffee and the sweetness of freshly hewn wood.

For each whisky in The Balvenie Stories range the distillery has created an audiobook of conversations between Global Ambassador Gemma Paterson and the workers at the distillery about that whisky and David Stewart and Kelsey McKechnie sharing a dram with the people who made it possible. These can be streamed from their website while you settle back into the armchair with a dram.
