Balvenie 17 Year old Doublewood (2013) 70cl

Like the famous 12 year old expression this Balvenie has been matured in two types of cask, the key difference this has been given an extra five years of cask ageing. A great release for 2012.

Production of the Balvenie 17 Double Wood has stopped, which is why the rarity is rarely available on the market. The single malt Scotch whiskey matured in American oak barrels. The Scottish distillery then refined it in ex-Sherry casks. It was bottled at a drinking strength of a mild 43 percent by volume. The result is a solid, aromatic whiskey that is suitable for both beginners and long-time whiskey connoisseurs.

Tasting Notes

Nose: The aroma of Balvenie 17 Double Wood is complex and elegant. The whiskey impresses with tones of finely spicy oak, sweet vanilla and honey. Green apples and oranges bring fruity flavors into play.

Palate: When drinking, the whiskey is sweet and fruity and has a mild body on the tongue. It tastes of apples, oranges and roasted almonds. Sweet toffee combines with vanilla. Oak notes round off the taste.

Finish: The finish is medium long and pleasantly mild. Sweet vanilla, honey and spicy oak remain on the palate after tasting the Balvenie 17 Double Wood.
