This year’s Autumn Edition of Equinox & Solstice is a single, second fill European oak Oloroso sherry hogshead of 2013 Caol lla, bottled at 11 years of age and reduced to this series’ trademark easy drinking strength of 48.5%.

We think Autumn is a time when whiskies start to need to be a bit punchier and more powerful. Warming drams that work outdoors or indoors, but which are always sociable and easy to share. This Caol Ila was a perfect example of that style. Gently sherried, robustly peaty, drying, clean and superbly fresh and invigorating.

It’s hipflask ready and perfect for Autumn.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Salty and umami sherry, underscored by pure, sharp peat smoke. Also gherkins, seawater, soy sauce and tar.

Palate: Very thick in texture and mouth-coating. Smoked olive oil, black olives, much more tar and a rich, deep peat smoke into the aftertaste.

Finish: Long, a touch of sweetness, further tar, smoky and lovely umami and savoury qualities.
