Chichibu Ichiro's Malt Red Wine Cask Single Malt Japanese Whisky 2023 3cl Sample

A limited edition 2023 release from beloved Japanese distillery, Chichibu. This single malt was matured in a combination of wine casks from France, the United States, New Zealand and Japan. The result is a complex and full-bodied whisky with layers of tropical fruit and red berries, complemented by notes of blueberries, blood orange and a long, spicy finish.

Tasting notes

• Color: deep copper with glowing reflections.
• Nose: for this edition, Chichibu has selected the best red wine barrels, which is reflected in a promising and complex nose, harmoniously blending honey, precious wood and a variety of fruits such as medlar, wild berries and citrus.
• Mouth: the experience begins with opulent notes of red fruits, led by blueberry, enhanced by the freshness of citrus fruits and medlar. Nuances of mint and licorice bring persistent freshness, evolving towards more vegetal and woody notes, with an accent of refined cedar. The profile is completed by bitter touches of cocoa, balanced by the sweetness of fine caramel.
• Finish: the finish is prolonged, marked by a pleasant bitterness with notes of clove and orangette, while retaining a lingering sweetness reminiscent of milk chocolate.

Chichibu Distillery

It was in 2007 that Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of the founder of the Hanyu distillery, launched the Chichibu distillery northwest of Tokyo with two stills specially designed by Forsyth's in Scotland. The first Japanese single malt distillery since Hakushu, it is also the smallest and most exclusive.

The distillery debuted in 2008 with its "Newborn" range of young whiskeys and in 2011 it unveiled its first mature whisky, a three-year-old cask strength called The First which was a great success with enthusiasts and collectors .

Today, the distillery offers a variety of whiskey under the Chichibu and Ichiro's Malt lines, including spirits aged 12 years. It also has the latest and valuable stocks of Karuizawa, Kawasaki and Hanyu.
