Deanston 10 Year Old Bordeaux Cask Finish Travel Exclusive 70cl

Deanston started life as a cotton mill in 1785 but by the 1960s the mill closed and - formed by the ideas of whisky broker, Brodie Hepburn - it began producing single malt whisky in 1967. Today it is owned by South African drinks company Distell and the majority of the whisky is used in popular blend Scottish Leader.

Originally released for the Travel Retail market, this 10 year old single malt from the wonderful Deanston Distillery was finished in casks that had previously held red wine from the world-famous Bordeaux region of France. This wine cask finish has imparted a full-bodied sweetness to the whisky, balancing its creamy, malty notes with splashes of damson, cherry and just a hint of dark chocolate. A superb late night dram, this one.

Tasting Notes

Nose Toffee apple, raspberries, waxy peels, a touch of grist.

Palate Boozy berry sweetness and toasty oak, plus some dark chocolate mousse later on. A little red chilli heat.

Finish Peppery on the finish, though its still got strawberry and orange oil for balance.
