Glenfarclas 20 Year Old Port Pipe Glencairn Decanter (Generation Series) 70cl (Read below for conditions notes)
Paying homage to the history of Glenfarclas – which has been with the Grant family for five generations – is this special release of the much-loved Highland single malt Scotch whisky, which has been matured in a Port pipe for 20 years. Glenfarclas is known and loved for its use of oloroso sherry casks, so a Port pipe matured whisky from here is a rare treat indeed. Only 600 bottles are available, and we suspect they'll be snapped up pretty quick.
Only 600 of these decanters were filled with this precious whisky, bottled at 50.5% ABV and at natural colour. This 20-Year-Old Port Pipe Decanter is truly a rarity from Glenfarclas, and a tantalising departure from the more customary sherry cask which offers the drinker a completely new experience. The distilling knowledge of five generation combines with a fresh take on the Glenfarclas collection to produce a whisky that is wholly unique and absolutely exquisite.
The tasting notes for the spirit are eucalyptus, raisins and honey on the nose, with rich red fruit and fresh citrus on the palate.
For the second instalment, Peter showcases Glenfarclas' innovative spirit by selecting a cask type rarely utilized in recent decades. In the pursuit of the distinctive Glenfarclas style, fourth-generation custodian George Grant experimented with various cask types, ultimately settling on Oloroso Sherry casks, which remain exclusive to the distillery. This 20-year-old single malt, matured in a rare Port pipe, offers a true rarity from Glenfarclas. It embodies the iconic Glenfarclas flavour profile of dried fruits, honey, and delicate oak, intermingled with luscious ripe red fruits, subtle citrus notes, and a masterfully balanced finish.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Hints of eucalyptus, dried raisins, honey and light oak.
Palate: Rich, ripe red fruits. Hints of fresh citrus, lemons, limes. Freshness that you don't expect from a whisky of this age.
Finish: Traces of the port cask coming through. Extremely well balanced. A long finish that is to be savoured.
