If you have ever tried a Family cask then no more needs to be said. If you have not, then I cannot express how much you are missing out. It is not just the whisky but the story, the resistance to being bought out by larger corporations, the quality of what is bottled, the packaging and the satisfying magnetic slam of the wood on wood as you close this after re-inserting the bottle back into place hoping that you can do it gently but there is just no way.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: The aroma opens with enticing notes of ripe orchard fruits, such as crisp apples and juicy pears, intermingled with hints of honey and vanilla. Subtle oak spices emerge, adding depth and complexity, while delicate floral undertones enhance the bouquet.
Palate: The palate is greeted with a luxurious velvety texture, offering a harmonious blend of flavors. Rich toffee and caramel notes dominate, accompanied by luscious butterscotch and honeyed sweetness. Succulent dried fruits, including figs, dates, and raisins, contribute to the whisky's complexity, while gentle oak tannins provide structure and balance.
Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, with the sweetness gradually giving way to subtle oak notes and a lingering warmth. Delicate hints of cinnamon and nutmeg linger on the palate, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and refinement.
