There is documentary evidence that a distillery existed at the Glenfarclas site as early as 1797. Glenfarclas - one of the few distilleries in Scotland that has remained privately owned since its founding - was founded in 1836 by Robert Hay, a farmer. Glenfarclas is now run by the family J. and G. Grant Ltd., the owners, in the 6th generation. The beautiful distillery is located in Speyside. Everyone is sure to know the large red gate at the entrance. Incidentally, all doors and gates leading to a warehouse in this distillery are red.

Glenfarclas started bottling individual casks at cask strength in 2007 with the "The Family Casks" series. The distillery wants to bring at least one bottling from each year of production onto the market. The annual whiskies date back to 1952. The whiskies are stored almost exclusively in former sherry casks. This "Family Cask" bottling from 2014 is certainly a very special story. On June 15th, this Glenfarclas, with 9 years of maturation and 60.2% ABV, was bottled especially for Nico Bernasconi, World of Whisky. In June 2023, Nico also took over the helm as Managing Director of World of Whisky. An absolute honor, as it is "almost" impossible to buy a single cask of whisky from Glenfarclas.

With this "Nico's Choice", of which there are only 301 bottles from the 2009 cask on the market, you can buy a wonderful Glenfarclas matured in a sherry cask. The color of the whisky promises a lot. With the wonderful mahogany tone, you can literally see the sherry cask storage. The characteristic wooden packaging alone makes quite an impression. At first contact, you immediately smell a pleasant smell. It is a sweet-fruity and nutty-dry aroma. You can detect a hint of raisins. Strong sherry notes on the tongue, but still balanced. This is followed by raisins, sweetness of honey and a little oak. The finish is long. First with sherry notes, then caramel and toffee notes. Then bitter chocolate with a cup of coffee, fine roasted aromas and a bitter sweetness. Slàinte Math!
