Glengoyne Legacy Series Chapter One (2019) 70cl

Earlier this year Glengoyne launched a new series of annual releases called The Legacy series, which would highlight different elements of the distillery heritage.

The Legacy Series: Chapter One is the first expression. It focuses on Cochrane Cartwright, the 19th century distillery manager who decided to focus on sherry casks for maturation and introduce the ‘slow’ distillation process, now two key elements for Glengoyne’s profile.

Chapter One is a mix of first-fill European oak Oloroso sherry casks and second-fill American oak casks. It is said to be composed with mostly 9-12 years old whisky. Quite light in colour, with little indications of Oloroso sherry.

This expression celebrates Cochrane Cartwright, Glengoyne’s distillery manager in 1869, who famously introduced sherry casks to Glengoyne. The liquid was matured in first-fill European oak Oloroso sherry casks as well as Glengoyne's refill casks, before being bottled at 48% ABV.

The distillery manager dramatically slowed down the distillation process from 1869 onwards and sherry casks were finally being used. Aging takes place in European First-Fill Oloroso Sherry casks and Glengoyne's award-winning Refill casks. Tasting notes: Colour: dark amber. Nose: Rich, caramel pudding, dates, vanilla cream, warm pears, cinnamon. Taste: Full-bodied, notes of sweet and fruity sherry aromas, hints of oak, sultanas, vanilla.Finish: Long lasting, balanced, dried fruit, notes of spices.
