Grand Old Parr 12 Year Old - De Luxe - 1980s 75cl
A 1980s bottle of Grand Old Parr 12-year-old blended Scotch! You don't manage to find many more of these nowadays and especially old ones like this! This is a lil higher at 43 rather than 40 so today it has probably lost a few percent as is normal.
This seems to be from 1987 as it is plastered with KN/2/87
TASTING NOTES
Nose
Well-balanced nose with sherried notes of orange, nutmeg, wine gums and vanilla. Water introduces a heathery/earthy smoke note.
Palate
Chewy. It's well balanced and juicy but with little jabs of citrus to keep you interested.
Finish
Long and mellow, starts cakey then comes pepper.
Comment
A fine, well-weighted pretty lush blend.
The Old Parr Scotch whisky brand was registered in 1909 by Greenlees Brothers, who soon became Macdonald Greenlees and were absorbed into Diageo forerunner Distillers Company Ltd (DCL) in the 1920s. Old Parr was originally a 12-year-old blended malt, although it soon became a blended Scotch whisky, and emphasised its age by taking its name from Old Tom Parr, who was buried in Westminster Abbey after passing away in 1635 at the (alleged) age of 152.
Macdonald Greenlees were the licence holders of the Glendullan distillery, and the blend also contains a significant proportion of Cragganmore single malt. Old Parr is no longer sold anywhere in Europe but remains an important export brand for Diageo in both Japan and South America, where it dominates the whisky market in Colombia.
