Johnny Walker Blue Label Ghost & Rare Port Dundas Blended Scotch Whisky (2022) 3cl Sample
The fifth in this much talked about limited edition series, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Dundas, draws on rare casks from the Glasgow “ghost” distillery of Port Dundas, once a powerhouse of the Whisky world, which closed its doors in 2010. Other ‘ghost’ whiskies from Cambus and Brora distilleries are balanced with exceptional rare Single Malts. Creamy, wood notes from Port Dundas embrace the vanilla and soft smoke from the “ghost” whiskies of Cambus and original stocks of Brora. Other very rare whiskies from Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie reveal notes of spiced apples alongside Clynelish, Dailuaine and Auchroisk, bringing aromas of peaches and berries.
This impressive expression is the first of the series to be overseen by master blender Emma Walker since taking on the role in 2022, after over ten years with the company. The blend includes parcels of grain whisky from Glasgow's Port Dundas distillery (which shut down its stills back in 2010), matured in second-fill and heavily charred first-fill American oak casks. Whiskies from two other "ghost" distilleries, Cambus and Brora also feature, alongside a host of five exceptionally rare single malts selected from the extensive Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves.
Nose Stewed apple, dusted with cinnamon and rich vanilla cream. Fresh apricot notes join, with delicate oak spice in tow.
Palate Whispers of elegant smoke and woody vanilla lead, while creamy grain and honeyed cereal balance baking spice warmth.
Finish
Poached orchard fruits follow, alongside darker notes of fruit crumble, with a pinch of ginger.
