An intriguing release from Taiwan's King Car distillery, presented as part of their Kavalan Solist range. This expression is allowed to mature in casks that previously matured peated whisky - which has imparted a helping of smoke and earthy notes to this single malt whisky.

This single cask single malt has been made using peated malt - an unusual step from this subtropical distillery. The peat is applied elegantly here, producing a gently peated dram where the smoke provides a complimentary touch, rather than overwhelming the flavour profile.

The end result is a whisky that serves up typical Kavalan notes of rich tropical fruits (pineapple, mango and peach), vanilla, gentle peat smoke, dried fruits, oily malt, brazil nuts, dark chocolate, redcurrants, cinnamon, black pepper, toffee and beeswax-polished oak.

Rather like a peated Highland Scotch whisky in character, this is another well made Kavalan dram.

Presented at a lower cask strength of 50% ABV, the spirit is warm without being fearsomely hot, and medium bodied.
