Longrow 10 Year Old Late 1980s Pre-Barcode Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl
A part of the Springbank family although differs in distillation and peat level. Slightly more peated than Springbank and although levels claim to be around 35-50 it never tastes like this thanks to the excellent orangey-cured meat tropical new make that goes into this.
Longrow is double distilled where Springbank is 2.5 times distilled.
Here is a chance to taste the Longrow from a time gone being distilled in the 80s. Thanks to the non digital methods of Springbank, it is difficult to often place the exact releases until new bottles codes came into circulation bring printed onto them. The lack of barcode indicates early 90s / late 80s. The fact that 1991 onwards had extra notification of the release of year puts this behind 1991 in age.
First distilled in 1973, Longrow is the peated single malt produced at Springbank distillery. Although very popular, Longrow remains an elusive whisky, with only 100-150 casks of it filled at the distillery each year. Early champions of this spirit included the legendary Italian bottler, Silvano Samaroli, who bought and bottled a number of famous casks from the inaugural vintage, and is credited by many with a good deal of the brand's success. It remains revered by connoisseurs to this day.
TASTING NOTES
Nose Salt and a leathery smokiness come to the fore in a maritime combination, like a Harbourmaster's Jacket.
Palate Light and sweet with notes of green grapes and rhubarb, a great contrast to the nose. Then comes a big blast of smoke.
Finish That salty smokiness returns from the nose providing a deeply satisfying ending.
