Tasting Notes – Milam & Greene Unabridged Volume 3 Bourbon Review

👉🏻Taste: Brown sugar, simple syrup, crème brûlée, dark cherries, white pepper & dry oak
👉🏻Finish: Hot cinnamon, increasing white pepper & mild simple syrup; dry wood and mild barrel char towards the end; long, with a pleasant warmth
The nose of Milam & Greene Unabridged Volume 3 Bourbon starts off both sweet and spicy. The spice comes from hot cinnamon, with the sweeter notes from brown sugar, buttery caramel and dark cherries. Subtle oak and hints of cedar round out the flavors. The alcohol vapor is noticeable, but less than expected for this bourbon’s relatively hefty 118 proof.
The taste is fairly sweet at first, with simple syrup and brown sugar. There are also crème brûlée and dark cherries, with rising white pepper later on, as well as a bit of dry oak. These flavors continue into the finish, with the white pepper spice continuing to increase. The hot cinnamon is back again, happy to be along for the ride. As the long finish continues, it becomes a bit more dry, with dry wood, mild barrel char, and a pleasant warmth.
A Complex Pour
Milam & Greene Unabridged Volume 3 Bourbon is quite the complex pour. It starts off on the sweeter side, but yet there’s already some hot cinnamon foreboding what is to come. Fairly subtle notes of dry oak and cedar divulge the presence of some of the older whiskeys in the blend. The taste starts off sweeter, still; almost syrupy at first, but rapidly giving way to the developing white pepper spice and dry oak. Finally, spice is king in the finish, from both hot cinnamon and white pepper. The sweetness gradually fades as well, giving way to what is ultimately a fairly dry end to the finish. The wide range of bourbons, with some containing a significant amount of malted rye, are certainly responsible for much of the complex and changing flavors.
Conclusion
This is yet another delicious whiskey from Milam & Greene! Due to its complexity, it is definitely one to be savored. Nonetheless, it is difficult to stop at just one pour.
