This special single cask was released as part of the Na Sia Single Cask Collection from Isle of Raasay distillery, a six cask collection of drams showcasing the casks used to create the single malt produced at the distillery on Raasay.

This single cask release was distilled 3rd May 2019 using un-peated spirit then laid to rest in ex-Bordeaux red wine cask #19/433 for 5 years, 1 month and 20 days! Bottled in 2024 at 60.5% vol. Na Sia translates to 'The Six' in Gaelic.

For their excellent single malt the distillery combines peated and un-peated spirits in ex-rye whiskey, chinkapin oak and ex-Bordeaux red wine casks. This is a fantastic opportunity to sample Isle of Raasay single malt matured in one of their single cask maturation choices. This is part of their unpeated single casks released for the UK retailers in 2024, with the 3 peated casks coming later this year.

The Bordeaux red wine casks we use are made from two oak species, Quercus patrea & Quercus robur, adding savoury spice, whilst the red wine imparts tannins into the new make spirit.

The casks were previously used to age three vintages of Bordeaux red wine, resulting in sumptuous, fruity top notes in our spirit like blackberries, plums, and cherries.

TASTING NOTES

Stained red on the outside, these high quality Bordeaux red wine casks are delivered fresh to the island from the châteaux of South West France. In the first few months of maturation, our spirit develops a pink hue in these casks, which turns into a deeper, darker red.

Bold flavours and fruity notes develop in the spirit – including dried fruits, sultana, grape, Christmas cake & bread pudding.

Released every 2 years as peated and unpeated spirit.
