Springbank 1969 Signatory Vintage 27 Year Old Single Cask (1996)
Springbank from the direct fire / heat days is a novelty that sadly, these days is hardly available to be found.
Dug up from the depths in amazing condition is this bottle of 1969 Sherry matured Springbank that has been matured in Campbeltown for 27 Years and then bottled by the prestigious & respectable independent bottler Signatory Vintage.
Springbank distillery has been owned and operated by the Mitchell family in Campbeltown since 1837, and it one of Scotland's most revered distilleries. Following a brief mothballing between 1979 and 1987, upon the reopening the decision was taken to cease all sales to the blending industry and focus on its single malt sales. Today it is one of the only distilleries to malt, distil, bottle and mature whisky on the same site, and produces three distinct and highly prized single malts.
This whisky was distilled on 16th July 1969 and aged in ex-Sherry wood for 27 years.
Signatory Vintage were established in 1988 by Andrew Symington and are one of Scotland's most prolific independent bottlers. Their offices and bottling facility are located next to Edradour distillery, which they have also owned since 2002.
This comes to us in a classic dumpy bottle with red display box.
The nose opens with tropical fruits, spices, honey and wet tobacco. The palate has a rich, oily feel with licorice, cooked fruits, sherry, vanilla and a touch of ginger spiciness. The finish is long and warm with spice and a punchy fruitiness.
