Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Barrel #2793 CN-D (2024) 75cl
To obtain these, one normally needs to visit the distillery and hope for the best.
One of the best single barrels that Wild Turkey produce until Master Keep Series
Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit is a single barrel bourbon, which means no two barrels will be exactly alike. First released in 1994, it is said to be the second single barrel bourbon to hit the market after Blanton’s. Single barrels are selected by Jimmy and Eddie Russell, and in some cases offered as private selection barrels that were pre-selected by the Russells for inclusion in the single barrel selection program.
Wild Turkey uses a single mashbill for all of their bourbons. Wild Turkey’s barrel entry proof (the proof the distillate enters the barrel for aging) is relatively low at 107 to 115, up from 105 at one time, resulting in a low bottling proof by comparison to competitors’ barrel proof products which typically go in at the maximum allowable 125 proof.
This bottle of Kentucky Spirit sports the bourbon’s new packaging and label, consistent with packaging changes across Wild Turkey’s lineup.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Lots of vanilla with pears and nutmeg and cinnamon. There is some old leather in the background hiding behind the oak.
Taste: Corn and vanilla with pears and nutmeg. Tasted with a dried cranberry enhances the pear and the baking spices but lessens the vanilla and corn. Tasted with a pecan enhances the vanilla and corn but takes away the fruit and lessens the spice. It actually gives it a cream soda feel in the mouth.
Finish: Starts very peppery and dries out with oak. Tasted with the cranberry it loses the pepper and the spice becomes more cinnamon. The pecan makes the finish oaky and less spicy.
