Malt Whisky from 100% Japanese barley
Obtained from the careful blending of only malts of different styles made in the Kyoto Miyako Distillery thanks to the creative use of the two pot stills.
In this product you will also encounter another ancient art from Kyoto, “Nishijin-Ori” is used as the label. And the label is used as an obi to create an elegant and beautiful design. This type of woven label comes from the Heian-Kyo era, more than 1200 years ago. Nishijin-ori in a generic term used for dyed yarn that is woven into high-quality products in Kyoto, and these are produced in large variety but small volumes. The fabric used feels very soft. This craftsmanship was developed in this region and is famous not only in Kyoto, but all over the world as a silky product that represents Japan.
The great demand for Japanese whisky worldwide has meant that distilleries have focused on the art of blending rather than on the creation of single malts. Another characteristic is the prevalent production, at least at this historical moment, of Non Age Statment whisky (without indication of age), a term that identifies the major production of the Land of the Rising Sun. If in Scotland a blended whisky is at most a good value for money product, the same cannot be said in the case of a Japanese whisky. The master distillers of Kyoto Miyako Distillery are applying all the attention and production capabilities at their disposal to their spirits, in order to create blended malt & grain and blended malt with the characteristics of premium spirits.
TASTING NOTES
Luxurious malty aroma with well-balanced smokiness. The excellent mixing technique allows you to enjoy the original taste of carefully selected malt whiskies. The delicate and fresh aftertaste is reminiscent of the rich character of Kyotamba-Cho.v
About Kyoto Miyako
Kyoto Miyako Distillery is the first whisky distillery in Kyoto, located in Kyotamba-Cho and surrounded by beautiful nature, which is in the central part of Kyoto Prefecture. Not far from the distillery, there is Yura River which is known as Ayu (Sweetfish) fishing spot.
At Kyoto Miyako Distillery, there are two types of pot stills, a straight head type and a bulge type. The straight head type makes spirit with a relatively bold taste of ingredients and the bulge type helps to produce spirit with a gorgeous and smooth taste. By using different types of pot stills, the range of whisky tastes gets further expanded.
Because this location is surrounded by mountains such as Mt. Chorogatake there is a big difference in temperature between day and night. According to the distillery, this temperature difference accelerates the aging process of the whisky and is an irreplaceable step in the making of the whiskies of the Kyoto Miyako Distillery.
