Subtle Spirits Hummingbird 16 Year Old Buffalo Trace Wild Turkey Single Barrel (Buff Turkey) 121.8 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (2025) 75cl
Always wanted to drink Pappy Van Winkle 15 or 20 but don't want to spend $1000+ on it? Well here you are!
In the past, barrels of Buffalo Trace were purchased by Wild Turkey and aged for more years than the average release hence the term Buff Turkey.
Buff Turkey Bourbon is a unique collaboration where Buffalo Trace Distillery produced bourbon using Wild Turkey’s mashbill (75% corn, 13% rye, 12% barley) and then Wild Turkey aged the barrels. This arrangement arose after the Campari Group acquired Wild Turkey in 2009 and expanded the distillery in 2011, creating concerns about production capacity. The bourbon was eventually sold to non-distiller producers (NDPs), who bottled it under different labels, making it highly sought after by collectors.
Buff Turkey bourbons are known for their sweetness and complexity, with tasting notes often including rich caramel, toasted oak, warm vanilla, and subtle spice. Each barrel can vary slightly, but the common thread is a refined, mature flavor developed over 14–16 years of aging. The Blue Grass Buff Turkey 15-Year-Old, for example, is celebrated for its deep, layered profile and smooth finish, making it a standout for connoisseurs.
These bourbons are released under various brands by private bottlers. Some notable examples include Blue Grass Distillers, New Era Whiskey, OKI, and Seelbach’s, with prices on the secondary market ranging from $290 to over $700 depending on rarity and barrel size. Limited releases, such as single-barrel editions, are particularly valuable to collectors. Buff Turkey Bourbon represents a rare and collectible bourbon with a fascinating production story, combining the craftsmanship of Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey. Its long aging, complex flavour, and limited availability make it a prized addition for bourbon enthusiasts and collectors alike.
About Buffalo Trace
The Buffalo Trace Distillery is the oldest continually operating distillery in America, crafting bourbon on the same Kentucky grounds for over 200 years. We are the world’s most award-winning distillery, still crafting whiskey every day and open to welcome visitors. Our mission is simple: create exceptional spirits, share them with the world and preserve bourbon’s heritage for generations to come.
Buffalo Trace Distillery is first and foremost dedicated to the craft of bourbon whiskey. For over two centuries, we have pursued the vision of making the “finest whiskeys in the world.” Today, as the world’s most award-winning distillery, we keep bourbon at the heart of everything we do.
The history of our distillery, known today as Buffalo Trace, begins in 1775 with the founding of Leestown along the banks of the Kentucky River. It was here, on the paths once carved by migrating buffalo, that early settlers first began making whiskey. Over the next two centuries, the distillery grew and evolved, carrying our craft through wars, floods, fires, tornadoes and even Prohibition, always staying true to the pursuit of quality bourbon.
Through the years, the distillery operated under several names that marked important chapters in our legacy: O.F.C. Distillery, founded by Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. in 1870, George T. Stagg Distillery from 1904, and finally, in 1999, it was rechristened as the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Today, it stands as the world’s most award-winning distillery, where history and innovation continue to meet in every barrel.
