Weller Single Barrel The Original Wheated Bourbon Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (2024) 75cl
A bottle of the 2019 release of George T. Stagg, the Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey in Buffalo Trace's prestige Antique Collection annual releases and for many bourbon fans the best whiskey in the distillery's portfolio.
This 2019 edition of George T. Stagg is from the 2004 vintage and was bottled as a 15-year-old at its hefty but still remarkably palatable cask strength of 58.45% / 116.9 US Proof. Incredibly, as of early 2024 this is the lowest strength that George T. Stagg has ever been released at, and the first and only time it has ever dipped under 60%. For the record, the highest strength Stagg so far was the 2007 edition, released at a mind-boggling 72.4%.
This 2019 edition of George T. Stagg scooped a whopping 97 points at the Ultimate Spirits Competition 2020, one of countless awards collected by the various annual releases of this extraordinary whiskey since its launch in 2002.
TASTING NOTES
About Buffalo Trace
The Buffalo Trace Distillery is the oldest continually operating distillery in America, crafting bourbon on the same Kentucky grounds for over 200 years. We are the world’s most award-winning distillery, still crafting whiskey every day and open to welcome visitors. Our mission is simple: create exceptional spirits, share them with the world and preserve bourbon’s heritage for generations to come.
Buffalo Trace Distillery is first and foremost dedicated to the craft of bourbon whiskey. For over two centuries, we have pursued the vision of making the “finest whiskeys in the world.” Today, as the world’s most award-winning distillery, we keep bourbon at the heart of everything we do.
The history of our distillery, known today as Buffalo Trace, begins in 1775 with the founding of Leestown along the banks of the Kentucky River. It was here, on the paths once carved by migrating buffalo, that early settlers first began making whiskey. Over the next two centuries, the distillery grew and evolved, carrying our craft through wars, floods, fires, tornadoes and even Prohibition, always staying true to the pursuit of quality bourbon.
Through the years, the distillery operated under several names that marked important chapters in our legacy: O.F.C. Distillery, founded by Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. in 1870, George T. Stagg Distillery from 1904, and finally, in 1999, it was rechristened as the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Today, it stands as the world’s most award-winning distillery, where history and innovation continue to meet in every barrel.
