A small distillery in Germany that already produces other spirits is a well sought after brand in the region. German brands such as Freud, Slyrs and St Killian have been making great advances in their whisky production over the last decade and now we see some of the more adventurous examples of their results. A deliciously mid strength vatting of single malt barley whisky into one hybrid cask of sherry, bourbon and eiche. 

The only sad part is that there is not that much around. 

About Gartenreich

In the heart of Wörlitz, in the garden realm of the Garden Kingdom, handcrafted premium spirits have been produced since 2020. Founder and owner Frank Franke has fulfilled his dream with the Garden Kingdom Distillery: to distill top-quality spirits from regional ingredients – authentic, sustainable, and with a clear connection to his homeland.

The product range is diverse: gin, whisky, fruit brandies, rum, and liqueurs are carefully distilled at the Gartenreich Distillery in Wörlitz. The grain, fruit, and potatoes come almost exclusively from partners in the immediate vicinity, ensuring that the entire value chain remains within the region.
A distinctive feature of the distillery is its labels: each bottle bears names and motifs from Wörlitz and the Garden Kingdom – from “Prince Franz” and “Princess Louise” to the “Wonder Rock”. Thus, each product becomes a piece of local history in liquid form.

When Frank Franke fires up the still in his small distillery, the air is filled with the scent of juniper, delicate herbs, and warm metal. Then begins a process that has long since become routine for the Wörlitz native – and yet, each time, a small miracle anew: From mash, heat, and a handful of closely guarded recipes, spirits are created that are in demand not only in the Garden Kingdom but far beyond the region. And at Christmas, his fine spirits are a staple among many gift piles, often as a "liquid last resort" for those who already have everything. Or simply for those who appreciate good taste and the "Made in Wörlitz" label.
