Arguably the most famous independent bottler of Scotch whisky there is. Gordon & MacPhail was founded in Elgin in 1895 by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail. It is now owned by the Urquhart Family who have bow bottled over 350 different expressions from around 69 different distilleries. Gordon & MacPhail is the Trading name of Speymalt Whiskies while also owning the Benromach distillery, which they purchased in 1993. Some of the brands include Connoisseurs Choice, Cask Strength, Rare Old and Speymalt.

Part of Gordon & Macphail's Private Collection Series 1. Personally selected by members of the Urquhart family that has owned Gordon & Macphail for four generations. Private Collection whiskies are greatly‐aged single malts from celebrated, little‐known, or closed distilleries.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Subtle sherry aromas intertwine with walnut, ginger and cocoa powder.

Palate: Sweet honey flavours complement medjool dates and demerara sugar. Seville orange peel comes to the fore alongside autumnal spices.

Finish: A long finish with red apple, black pepper and menthol.

About Benromach

Benromach distillery was built in 1898 in Forres, near Elgin.

In 1993 the distillery was acquired by the Urquhart family keen to revive the lost Speyside style using malted barley to give just a whisper of peat smoke. This process goes back over a century when all malting in Speyside would have topped up fires with cuts of peat when supplies of coal ran low, gifting the whiskies a distinct character.

When the distillery was reopened by Prince Charles in 1998, it signalled the rediscovery of a lost style of Speyside single malt.

They believe this subtly smoky character adds depth to the spirit, enhances the complexity and flavour profile of the core range of whiskies.

And provides drinkers with variations on a theme, whiskies presented in the Contrasts range are limited edition, single batch or single cask releases born from the natural instinct to experiment. Each release showcases the result of a new process, barley type or casks to provide whisky enthusiasts with something new to explore.
