The name comes from where the tunnel is located, in the town of Togouchi, which merged with two other towns to create a larger town called Akiota. This is their no-age-statement expression, the Togouchi Premium Blended Japanese Whisky.
About Togouchi
Togouchi is a brand of whisky from Sakurao Distillery in Hiroshima, Japan, which matured in an abandoned railway tunnel that creates a unique microclimate for aging. While the original Togouchi whisky was a blend of imported Scotch malt and Canadian grain whiskies that were blended and naturalized in Japan, recent production from Sakurao's own distillery in Hiroshima has also produced 100% Japanese-origin single malt and grain whiskies, all matured in the unique tunnel environment.
