Bib & Tucker 15 Year Old The Golden Spike Limited Edition Small Batch Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey (2024) 75cl
Bib & Tucker's oldest bourbon to date.
Bib & Tucker has a decent reputation in the bourbon world — particularly its older expressions — and today the outfit launches its oldest expression yet, a 15 year old bourbon it calls The Golden Spike. (Why The Golden Spike? It honours the transcontinental railroad, began in 1845, and the 17.6 karat gold spike used to complete the line connecting the east to the west. “The Golden Spike celebrates the completion of this great achievement in American history. Each bottle includes a Gold Train Bottle Topper to further signify the historic moment,” per the brand.
“This release is both a celebration and a thank you,” said Max L. Shapira, Executive Chairman of Heaven Hill Brands. “When we launched Bernheim Wheat Whiskey 20 years ago, we took a chance on a new mashbill and a new idea. The support we received in those early days helped shape not only this brand, but the expansion in popularity of different styles of American Whiskey we continue to see today.”
Crafted from Bernheim’s signature soft winter wheat recipe, the 20th Anniversary Limited Edition features a special selection of barrels aged 10 years and is bottled at 115 proof (57.5% ABV), delivering a rich and complex tasting experience that honours both tradition and innovation. Produced at the historic Bernheim Distillery and aged in rickhouses in Bardstown, Kentucky, this small batch release reflects Heaven Hill’s continued commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
The commemorative bottle design underscores the significance of the release, featuring a distinctive copper plate on the front as a visual marker of its limited-edition status and a nod to the heritage and craftsmanship behind the brand.
TASTING NOTES
A well-tempered nose plays things easy, a showcase for sweetened Corn Pops that had me thinking of those little cereal boxes we only got to eat on vacation as kids. Vanilla, butterscotch, and almond syrup round out a very sweet aromatic profile, with some late-game savoury elements, barrel char and a note of dill, finally creeping in. These are all prelude to a palate which doubles down on its sweeter side, with that butterscotch character particularly heavy. From there the whiskey’s fruit quickly evolves, showing off a surprising tropical side that features lychees, pineapple, and a hint of coconut. Notes of guava and a call-back of dill make for a rather exotic but also spicy finish, abetted by a 50.4% abv that adds a slightly racy element to the proceedings.
About Bib & Tucker
Our name, bottle, and small batch approach were inspired by the turn of the century in America. A time of unprecedented progress and adventure when all bourbon was small batch. Cities grew, skyscrapers went up, railroad tracks went down and new inventions changed the way people got together and celebrated. The distillery is based in Nashville, Tennessee.
Despite looking similar to Bulleit’s bottle design, the bourbon inside is the farthest thing from it
Bib & Tucker Bourbon is a small-batch bourbon whiskey that captures the essence of traditional whiskey-making with a modern twist. It is crafted by Deutsch Family Spirits and is known for its smoothness and unique flavour profile. The bourbon is aged for a minimum of six years and is available in different versions, including a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old single barrel. The bottle design is a throwback to the 1800s, with an embossed glass bottle that feels like it could have been pulled from a dusty shelf in an old apothecary.
Bib & Tucker was originally the creation of 3 Badge Beverage Corp., the spirits company owned by California winemaker August Sebastiani. In 2017, Sebastiani sold the brand to Deutsch Family Wines & Spirits, which also owns Redemption Whiskey, acquired from founders Dave Schmier and Michael Kanbar in 2015.
