Glasgow Distillery 10 Year Old 2015 SMWS Single 1st Fill Bourbon Barrel 156.8 Lemony McLemon Face Creators Collection Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (2026) 70cl

Exclusive Creators Collection Edition

1 of 200 bottles produced from a single 1st fill bourbon Cask

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by Phillip 'Pip' Hills who, while travelling around Scotland in the 1970s, fell in love with whiskies drawn straight from the cask. After he expanded his syndicate the Society was purchased by Glenmorangie PLC in 2004. In 2015, the Society was sold back to private investors. In June 2021, the private owners floated the holding company The Artisanal Spirits Company plc on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange.

It has a unique code system where the first number refers to the distillery and the second refers to the cask from which the bottle comes. SMWS also offers the largest range of distilleries of any independent bottler. These curiously named drams really do have something for every whisky lover!

TASTING NOTES

The initial nose proffered many lemons! Lemon bonbons, limoncello, lemon curd, lemon drizzle cake, lemon barley water. After many groves of lemons were snuffled through, we also detected aniseed balls, virgin olive oil, and strawberries and cream. Water brought out tea tree oil, custard powder, bergamot, lemon thyme and wee minty hints. The palate, when neat, was superbly mouthcoating, with shortbread, tart au citron (more lemons, really), some peppery mace notes and ... lemon. With water we got bananas baked with custard, rosewater, lime curd, a scattering of dolly mixtures and an even more emphatic textural present in the mouth.

About Glasgow Distillery

Founders Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward embark on a mission to bring single malt whisky distilling back to the city of Glasgow and officially incorporate ‘The Glasgow Distillery Company Ltd.’ Named after one of the first licensed distilleries in Scotland. The original Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 1770, subsequently operated under a number of different names, and produced unpeated, peated, and triple distilled single malt until its eventual closure in 1902.

The distillery begins to take shape and the mission of bringing premium spirits production back to the city has begun.

A site for the new distillery is found on the outskirts of Glasgow in Hillington, and work soon begins on plans to construct the city’s first new independent single malt whisky distillery in over 100 years. It's not a traditional setting for a distillery, but this will not be a traditional whisky distillery.

A repurposed warehouse is utilised to house the equipment within; planning efficient use of this space is paramount and the shape of the distillery infrastructure starts to take shape.

Glasgow distillery is a freestanding, independently owned distillery that was started by two friends in 2012 with a mission to bring premium spirits distillation back to Scotland’s biggest city. We’re Glasgow’s distillery. Always aspiring to do better, we punch above our weight and aim to push the boundaries. We’re a team of 16 spirit lovers who create a portfolio of flavour-packed spirits across whisky, gin, vodka, and rum. These character-rich products are each inspired by a story rooted in our city’s heritage and history. We run our distillery on the following three core principles:

Our distillery is located on the outskirts of the city in the industrial estate, Hillington. This is our home, and our industrial heritage runs through everything we do – creating premium products with a no-nonsense, honest, and down-to-earth attitude. Our distillery is hands-on, with little automation, which is why we have an unusually large distillation team (given our size) and our own on-site cooper.

We’re upfront and honest about what we do. We share as much detail about our production and products as possible. With nothing to hide, we welcome those enthusiasts who want to take a deep dive into our process and our ethos.

We’re making great quality products that can be enjoyed by all. We don’t use over-the-top marketing methods or hard-to-understand language. We don’t aspire for an ever-growing premiumisation of our output. We’re offering quality spirits, that are approachable and easy to enjoy, at an affordable price
