Jack Daniel's Distillery Series Selection #008 High Toast Maple Barrel Finish Distillery Exclusive Tennessee Whiskey (2022) 37.5cl

A distillery-only limited release that takes some risks, Jack Daniel’s Toasted Maple Barrel Rye is a whiskey that needs to become an ongoing product.

If you’re someone that is interested in all things American whiskey, then you’ve probably taken notice of Jack Daniel’s over the past few years. As we’ve detailed before, the house of Jack has lowered their guard and allowed themselves a bit of risk taking. Sure the company has their flavoured whiskeys and cocktails in a can products, but Distillery Series #8 shows just because “maple” is in the whiskey’s name, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take this whiskey seriously.

Jack Daniel’s classifies this as part of their “Distillery Series line of experimental whiskeys.” This makes sense to see the use of a rye in something experimental such as using ex-maple barrels, but for the company known for their Tennessee whiskey, it's still surprising they decided to use their rye for this, especially since almost everyone else likes to pair bourbon with maple finishing.

The result is surprising. The high toast, no char maple finishing barrels imparted a very delicate layer of maple to the rye. Jack Daniel’s Rye is fruit-forward and when paired with maple it gives off a dessert-like taste of french toast topped with mixed fruit salad. It’s every bit as delectable as it sounds.

About Jack Daniel's

Jack Daniel's is the best-selling American whiskey in the world. Despite that fact it can legally be categorised as a straight bourbon, it has always shunned this title, preferring to market itself as a Tennessee Whiskey. These are similar to straight bourbons but have the additional requirement of having been filtered through maple wood charcoal, a practice known as the Lincoln County Process. History has not always given the distillery an easy ride though. Tennessee was an early adopter of Prohibition in 1910, and one of the last to repeal it in 1938 (five years later than the repeal at Federal level). Even today the distillery is still located in a "dry" county, meaning none of its products are sold in its hometown or those around it. The distillery was then only operational for four years before being forced to close again during the second world war. Ten years later it was purchased by the Brown-Forman corporation and its fortunes turned for good. Its classic black-labelled Old No.7 brand (named after the distillery’s original DSP number) is now a globally recognised product.
