Jack Daniel’s Heroes Selection Military Personnel Exclusive Single Barrel Barrel Proof 132 Proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey (2024) 75cl

The Jack Daniel’s Heroes Selection Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey is an exclusive release honoring veterans and active military personnel. Part of Jack Daniel’s limited Heroes Selection series, this special edition was hand-selected by U.S. Navy veteran and Jack Daniel’s SVP General Manager, Melvin Keebler, as a tribute to those who serve. With proof levels ranging between 125 and 140, the bottle reviewed for this article is from Barrel No. 24-05139, aged in Barrel House 1-13, and comes in at a bold 132.5 proof. This barrel-proof rye offers a complex aroma of rich caramel and toasted fruit, with each barrel expressing unique depth through notes of toasted oak and barrel spice.

Crafted from a grain bill of 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley and charcoal mellowed, the whiskey provides a smooth, robust experience. Packaged with an exclusive gift box and collectible medallions, this release also supports Operation Ride Home, which has funded holiday travel for nearly 13,000 service members and their families.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Dark fruit, tart cherry, stone fruit, apricot, mulling spice, graham cracker, and a corn Chex cereal note.

Palate: Star anise, Sun-Made raisins, clove, mint, vanilla, stone fruit, leather, spearmint, and oak.

Finish: Green tea, white pepper, oak, toasted caramel, vanilla, menthol, spearmint, and dry oak.

About Jack Daniel's

Jack Daniel's is the best-selling American whiskey in the world. Despite that fact it can legally be categorised as a straight bourbon, it has always shunned this title, preferring to market itself as a Tennessee Whiskey. These are similar to straight bourbons but have the additional requirement of having been filtered through maple wood charcoal, a practice known as the Lincoln County Process. History has not always given the distillery an easy ride though. Tennessee was an early adopter of Prohibition in 1910, and one of the last to repeal it in 1938 (five years later than the repeal at Federal level). Even today the distillery is still located in a "dry" county, meaning none of its products are sold in its hometown or those around it. The distillery was then only operational for four years before being forced to close again during the second world war. Ten years later it was purchased by the Brown-Forman corporation and its fortunes turned for good. Its classic black-labelled Old No.7 brand (named after the distillery’s original DSP number) is now a globally recognised product.
