A curious mashbill of 30% Blue Clarage Corn / 30% Yellow Leaming Corn / 26% Balboa Rye / 14% 2-Row Malted Barley. This whiskey was aged in Kelvin Antique barrels made with 24-month air-dried staves which were first toasted and then finished with a #4 char. The whiskey entered the barrel at just 103 proof.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Strawberry, Citrus, Cedar, Clove, Brown Sugar, Vanilla Strawberry and citrus come through first, followed by cedar and clove. Underneath is a sweeter layer of brown sugar and vanilla that gives the nose some added depth.
Palate: Molasses, Butterscotch, Caramel, Banana, Allspice, Oak The whiskey has a nice mouthfeel, likely helped by the lower barrel entry proof. The front palate opens with light molasses, butterscotch, burnt caramel, and a touch of banana. From there, the barrel influence really starts to show itself with allspice that builds through the back palate alongside a definite toasted oak character. The finishing on the barrel itself is evident.
Finish: Oak, Caramelized Sugar, Baking Spice The finish brings toasted oak, caramelized sugar, and baking spice together with plenty of warmth lingering on the back palate. At 107 proof, this one definitely drinks above its weight class, especially on the back palate and through the finish.

The dream of a boutique whiskey establishment began with Ryan Lintz and Tom Gray sipping bourbon in the backyard. Ryan and Michael Boland, who had met through the Cleveland Bourbon Club, then began seriously investigating how this wild idea could become a reality. Michael Boland’s existing connections with Cleveland celebrity chef Michael Symon helped to forge great relationships among those who would become the key members of the team. River Roots was created by a group of people both passionate and knowledgeable about whiskey with the simple mission of curating the best selection of spirits.
