Signatory Vintage Samurai Collection Craigellachie 2009 Single Sherry Butt #305809 Germany Exclusive Single Sherry Butt #305809 (2020) 70cl

A very rare bottling for a deep mahogany wonder.

For more than 700 years, these heroic warriors shaped the image of Japan. Kirsch Import and Signatory Vintage are now transforming them into protectors of good taste: the samurai. A new series of fine bottlings from Andrew Symington's treasure trove of wood has been elevated to the noble warrior status with expressive labels . Each is personalized with illustrated heroic figures , contrasting in black and white with the rays of the "rising sun," as the Japanese military flag is called.

Just as the sword is the soul of the samurai, sherry casks form the heart of the new range . From the heavily smoky Bunnahabhain Staoisha , to the intense mahogany-toned Ben Nevis , and the 12-year-old single malt from Royal Brackla , a distillery that primarily produces blends, to the wonderfully dark Glenlivet from 2006: all of the single malts in the series, bottled exclusively for Kirsch Import, were matured or finished in sherry butts . In keeping with the fighting spirit of their namesakes, the Samurai single malts unfold their dark aromas at cask strengths of up to 62.1% ABV. A matter of honor: these limited-edition Scotch whiskies are neither chill-filtered nor colored (we're so thrilled about this that we've put it on the label twice).

Why does Germany get all the cool artwork stuff and we don't? There seems to be much more snapping up of single cask whisky than there is in the UK so there is a lot of exclusives they receive that we are not fortunate enough to be able to obtain;.... until we came along. We specialise in these kinds of whiskies here at Whisky Situation.

About Craigellachie

Craigellachie is a whisky distillery in Craigellachie, Moray, Scotland. The distillery was built in 1891 by the Craigellachie-Glenlivet Distillery Company. The water of the distillery, which is part of the Speyside region, comes from Blue Hill. The whisky distillery is owned by Bacardi Martini. Malts of Scotland stands for specialties and rarities from almost all Scottish distilleries with consistently high quality and very special bottlings.

About Signatory Vintage

Perthshire-based independent bottler and owner of Edradour distillery. Signatory is an independent bottler with a vigorous release policy, and usually some 50 different single malt expressions are available at any one time. Whiskies are bottled across a number of ranges, including the Un-chill Filtered Collection, the Cask Strength Collection and the Single Grain Collection.

Signatory bottling, bonding and office facilities are located in a building adjacent to Edradour distillery, near Pitlochry in Perthshire, which the company also owns. Signatory Vintage Scotch Whisky was established in 1988 by Andrew Symington, who had previously managed the prestigious Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh. The first cask bottled by Symington was a 1968 Sherry-cask-matured Glenlivet.

Signatory was initially based in the Newhaven area of Edinburgh, where a bottling plant was developed, but in 2002 the firm acquired Edradour distillery from Pernod Ricard, and subsequently moved all of its operations north to the picturesque Perthshire location.

A new bottling plant and a warehousing complex were constructed, strictly in keeping with the vernacular architectural style which prevails at the much-visited and diminutive former farm distillery.
