Willett Pot Still Reserve Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 70cl

In this semi-annual release, we showcase our Wheated Mash Bill at Cask Strength for a full proof, full bodied bourbon. Willett Pot Still Reserve Cask Strength is released each year on the occasion of the Spring and Fall Equinox. Spring, defrosting from grey skies, an abundance of fresh mint blooming just in time for julep season. Fall, harvesting for hibernation, enjoying the crackle of burning wood and whiskey nights wrapped in cozy furs by the hearth, nuzzled in a delicious book or new movie. Both worthy of a robust, distinctive pour.

Tasting Notes

Nose : Summer fruits highlighted by ripe cherry and a pinch of citrus envelope a mingling of vanilla and dry oak. A faint hint of buttered popcorn lingers in the background, along with a dash of sweet honey. Light overall, but the combination of aromas brings enough complexity to keep it interesting, inviting you back for more.

Palate : Honey and caramel combine to form a sweet note against a light punch of spice and zesty citrus. The bourbon manages to deliver just enough potency to captivate its audience, however it offers a relatively thin mouthfeel. The palate is a balance of caramel, vanilla, spices and citrus. I'm not sure if they made the opulent bottle to match the Whiskey or vice versa.

Finish : A surge of rye spice crescendos initially, followed by a delicate sprinkling of cinnamon. Buttered popcorn emerges again, along with more traditional vanilla and caramel flavors. The finish lingers, leaving an agreeable spicy note that makes for an enjoyable end to the sip.

About Willett

Willett Distillery is a family-owned Kentucky distillery near Bardstown, established in 1936 and known for its small-batch bourbon and rye whiskies, including the iconic Willett Pot Still Reserve. The distillery was resurrected in 2012 after operating as an independent bottler for a period, and now distills its own whiskey using unique pot stills. Willett is celebrated for producing high-quality, rich, and complex spirits and is considered a significant part of Kentucky's bourbon heritage.
