Woodford Reserve Double XO Blend is a rare release created by Master Distiller Chris Morris. The expression is a blend of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey finished in heavily toasted casks and XO Cognac casks. This unique combination has created a complex, rich and smooth bourbon with bold oak flavours, bright fruits and spices.
The dual-finishing process distinguishes Double XO from standard bourbon production methods. Woodford Reserve first ages its bourbon whiskeys through traditional distillation, then transfers them to specially selected casks for additional maturation.
“This unique whiskey has a depth, complexity and elegance unlike any of our current offerings, yet it is distinctively Woodford Reserve,” McCall said.
TASTING NOTES
The official tasting notes describe the whiskey as deep mahogany in color. The aroma features chocolate-covered raisins dusted with nutmeg and toasted hazelnuts. On the palate, warm cinnamon, clove and nutmeg combine with brown sugar, raisins and blackberries. The finish delivers long notes of oak and raisins dusted with nutmeg.

Elizabeth McCall is the Master Distiller for Woodford Reserve, overseeing quality and innovation and leading special releases, including the Master’s Collection and Distillery Series. She is a Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS).
McCall has a master’s degree from the University of Louisville and began her career as a member of Brown-Forman’s Research and Department in 2009.
McCall was a Master Taster and Assistant Master Distiller before being named master distiller in February 2023.
She interacts one-on-one with consumers through personal barrel selections and education on sensory methodology and works to define the quality sensory standard to which every batch of Woodford Reserve must comply.
Elizabeth and her husband, Matt, have one daughter and a dog, Beasley.
