Yamazaki Tsukuriwake Collection Islay Peated Limited Edition Japanese Single Malt Whisky (2024) 70cl

This sought-after Yamazaki was made with Islay peated barley, imparting an additional layer of smoky complexity to the distillery’s single malt. A wonderful marriage of two great whisky producing cultures, this is an elegant whisky with notes of crème brûlée, candied orange peels, and apricots, underpinned by freshly cut ginger and a rich, sweet finish. A great addition to the 2024 Tsukuriwake series.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: A gentle veil of smoke drifts across the nose, nuanced by a delicate biscuit note. Islay peat threads through Yamazaki’s characteristic sweetness, yielding warmth and quiet invitation.

Palate: Silky and sweet as brown sugar, the palate unfolds into bright bitter orange citrus, with a subtle warmth that lingers.

Finish: Warm, lingering and softly smoky, this finish coats the palate with caramel-like sweetness, then fades to a gentle kiss of bitter orange.

About Yamazaki

The Yamazaki Distillery, established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii as Japan's first malt whisky distillery, is the birthplace of Japanese whisky, a result of Torii's vision to create a unique whisky using a Japanese climate and pure water sources. After sending Masataka Taketsuru to learn from Scottish whisky masters, Yamazaki began production in 1924, laying the foundation for Suntory's now world-famous Japanese whiskies. The distillery's success was cemented by international acclaim, including Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 winning World Whisky of the Year, bringing global recognition to Japanese whisky.
